Management in healthcare

The aim of the master vocational study programme in Healthcare Management is to provide advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of management, organization, and development of healthcare systems, based on contemporary scientific achievements, professional practice, and the strategic needs of the healthcare sector. The programme is designed to equip students to analyse, plan, and improve the functioning of healthcare institutions and systems through the application of modern managerial, organizational, and research methods.

During their studies, students develop competencies in healthcare management, the organization and planning of healthcare systems, healthcare service management, the management of material and human resources, as well as financial and crisis management in healthcare. Special emphasis is placed on the application of information systems in healthcare, monitoring and data protection, and the management of new technologies, enabling students to make high-quality and sustainable management decisions in a modern healthcare environment.

The study programme also includes content aimed at developing communication, legal, and ethical competencies through courses such as Communication in Healthcare, Medical Law, and Public Health, as well as improving the quality of healthcare services through quality management systems. Through the course Methods of Scientific Research Work, students are trained to apply scientific and professional methods in analysing healthcare issues, developing projects, and improving evidence-based practice.

A significant part of the programme is professional practice, which enables students to apply the acquired knowledge in real working conditions within healthcare institutions and organizations, as well as the preparation of the final thesis, through which students independently analyse and solve specific problems in the field of healthcare management. Upon completion of the study programme, graduates earn the title of Master Vocational Manager in Healthcare and acquire the competencies needed to responsibly and independently perform managerial, organizational, and advisory roles in healthcare and related systems, while also gaining a strong foundation for further professional development and lifelong learning in the field of healthcare management.

The competencies of graduates of the master vocational study programme in Healthcare Management are based on advanced, specialized knowledge in the field of managing healthcare systems and organizations, the integration of contemporary theoretical models and professional practice, as well as an understanding of the complexity of the healthcare and social care system. These competencies are aligned with the applicable national and international standards, legal and ethical frameworks, as well as with the descriptors of the National Qualifications Framework of Serbia (NQFS), level 7, within the field 09 – Health and Social Care.

Upon completion of the study programme, students acquire advanced knowledge and skills that enable them to act independently and responsibly in complex and changing professional environments, with the ability for strategic thinking, decision-making, and the improvement of professional practice.

Graduates become qualified to:

       • independently plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate the work of healthcare institutions and systems at different levels of healthcare provision;

       • analyse complex organizational, human resource, financial, and technological issues in healthcare and make evidence-based decisions;

       • participate in strategic and operational management of healthcare organizations, projects, and processes;

       • apply contemporary methods of human and material resource management, as well as financial and crisis management and quality management in healthcare;

       • manage information systems in healthcare, while applying the principles of security, monitoring, and data protection;

       • apply legal, ethical, and professional standards in managerial decision-making.

In addition to the general competencies of NQFS level 7, students also acquire subject-specific competencies, which include:

       • evaluating the performance of healthcare systems and organizations and proposing measures to improve efficiency and quality;

       • managing innovation and new technologies in healthcare;

       • applying scientific research methods in problem analysis and in the improvement of management practice;

       • professional communication and relationship management with employees, healthcare service users, and other relevant stakeholders.

Learning outcomes, in accordance with NQFS level 7 and taking into account professional practice and the preparation of the final thesis, are reflected in students’ ability to:

       • independently analyse, plan, and improve the work of healthcare institutions and systems;

       • apply theoretical, practical, and research knowledge in solving complex problems in healthcare;

       • develop and implement projects aimed at improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare services;

       • take responsibility for their own professional development and the development of practice in the field of healthcare management;

       • continuously monitor contemporary trends and innovations in the field of healthcare management.

Through these competencies and learning outcomes, graduates holding the title of Master Vocational Manager in Healthcare are qualified for independent, responsible, and professional work in managerial, organizational, and advisory positions, as well as for further professional development in accordance with the demands of the modern healthcare system.
